FOREST CITY — It’s like paintball, but without the mess.
That’s how Bear Creek Outdoors owner Kelly Lillie described their latest offering of Archery Tag. Lillie will be bringing the mobile tag unit to the Forest City Chamber’s Fridays in the Forest. The first event was to be held this Friday, but has since been postponed. The next Friday event will be held June 16.
The Archery Tag is a 12-player system with various obstacles. Players shoot foam-tipped non-lethal arrows.
The mobile tab unit can travel to birthday parties or family reunions. Lillie said she also plans to take the unit to this year’s Tree Town Music Festival.
Archery Tag is the newest offering from Bear Creek Outdoors.
Kelly and her husband, Rick, opened the Bear Creek Outdoors Archery Pro Shop outside of their home in October of 2015. They opened an indoor range along U.S. Highway 69 in the fall of 2016.
“We built from there,” Kelly Lillie said. They now offer Archery Tag and TechnoHunt, a virtual archery simulation. The simulation can act out up to 600 different animal scenes.
The indoor range features 12 shooting lanes. The range is also open 24/7 for members. A number of 4-H shooting sports clubs also use the indoor range for meetings and practice.
Lillie said the majority of shooters bring in their own bows. She said they also offer rentals and instructional coaching.
“Rick and I are both long-time archers. We hunt, do tournament shooting and recreational archery,” Lillie said.
She likes seeing archery build in popularity in North Iowa. Others are trying their hand at the sport for the first time.
“People don’t realize we’re here. They see the arrow stuck out by the highway and they stop in here interested in joining our membership,” Lillie said.
