Saddleback Valley Christian today was removed from the CIF-Southern Section boys basketball playoffs.
Saddleback Valley Christian principal Rod Markum said the school had been notified by the CIF-SS office that the office was reviewing the status of a Saddleback Valley Christian player. The player, a transfer to Saddleback Valley Christian, was ruled ineligible. Saddleback Valley Christian thus forfeited all games in which that ineligible player participated; the number of games forfeited is enough to pull the Warriors out of the playoffs.
“The information we were given was false regarding a transfer,” Markum said.
Saddleback Valley Christian last month relieved Tom Lewis of his duties as the school’s varsity boys basketball head coach. Markum, who also is serving as the school’s athletic director, said he could not give the reason for Lewis’ dismissal as it is a school personnel issue. Assistant coaches were running the team since Lewis’ departure.
Lewis said he had nothing to do with the transfer’s paperwork issue.
“At Saddleback Valley Christian Rod Markum handles all transfer paperwork,” Lewis said. “I have withheld no information pertaining to this student-athlete.”.
