Police said the body of a newborn baby was discovered in a garbage bag behind a home in Massachusetts.
The discovery was made Monday in Worcester after a neighbor contacted police and said he spotted the garbage bag with an unusual odor and was concerned about what was inside.
Police responded to the 300 block of Lake Avenue in Worcester, and found a newborn baby that had passed away inside the bag.
Worcester Police said while officers were at the scene investigating, they spotted a male and a female walking on the railroad tracks behind the address, which is considered private property.
The man, identified as 31-year-old Edwin Santiago and 36-year-old Jennifer Rheaume were placed under arrest and charged with walking on railroad tracks. Police said after further investigation and interviews, they were subsequently charged with removal of a human body, and concealment of the death of a child.
The Department of Children and Families was notified of the investigation. The cause and time of the baby’s death are currently unknown, pending autopsy results, police said.
Police said it was also unknown whether the baby was alive at the time of delivery.
