Alvin L.A. Horn

The local author, whose previous books include “One Safe Place” and “Perfect Circle,” will introduce his latest, “Bad Before Good & Those In Between” at 7 p.m. Jan. 15 at Third Place Books in Seward Park.

Epic Reads Book Tour

Four authors, for the price of one: Novelists Kendare Blake (“One Dark Throne”), Maureen Johnson (“Truly Devious”), Sara Holland (“Everless”) and Kasie West (“Love, Life and the List”) will introduce their latest books and then divide the audience for intimate chats. 6 p.m. Jan. 16 at University Book Store; tickets begin at $17.99 and include a copy of one of the four books (your choice).

Nikki Giovanni

The beloved poet and children’s book author will speak, in conversation with Nikkita Oliver, as part of the Sherman Alexie Loves series at Seattle Arts & Lectures. 7:30 p.m. Jan. 16 at Benaroya Hall; currently sold out, but a limited number of tickets will be available at the door.

Frances McCue

The poet/essayist and founding director of Richard Hugo House will speak, in conversation with Cary Moon, about her new book of poems (“Timber Curtain”) and about the aesthetic social, cultural and political transformation of Seattle. 7:30 p.m. Jan. 16 at Seattle University’s Pigott Auditorium; $5 through townhall.org.
