This month, David DiChiera — the founder and artistic director of the Michigan Opera Theatre — is retiring after four decades with the organization. The list of all the ways DiChiera impacted the Detroit arts and cultural scene during his tenure is long, to be sure, but turning the crumbling, historic Capitol Theatre into the resplendent Detroit Opera House is among one of his most notable contributions.
