Calyx Recovery opens in Richmond

We see a need in central Virginia to offer a different approach to treating addiction as a chronic disease that can be medically managed

A new addiction treatment service has opened in Richmond with a different approach to addiction recovery at a time when Virginia faces an opioid epidemic.

Last year, Virginia saw at least 1,420 deaths resulting from drug overdose, a staggering increase of 38 percent from 2015, underscoring the need for additional addiction treatment options.

Calyx Recovery opened a new, 15,000-square-foot treatment center, located at 681 Hioaks Road across from Chippenham Hospital, that includes room for programs, an on-site lab, counseling offices and space for group meetings and community education.

“With easy access to highways and a prime location across from a medical center, Calyx can accommodate about 200 patients on an outpatient basis, supported by eight full-time employees and a cadre of contracted counselors,” said Natalie Waters, director of clinical services.

“We see a need in central Virginia to offer a different approach to treating addiction as a chronic disease that can be medically managed,” added CEO Jeb Bird. “People often blame themselves for their addiction. Calyx Recovery helps them realize that they are not at fault. We empower recovery by helping patients understand and treat the root cause of addiction. This is especially important in Virginia, where so many die needlessly from addiction.”
