HarperCollins Christian Publishing is in search of a Associate Publisher for their W Publishing division. The W Publishing imprint publishes narrative nonfiction at the epicenter of faith, creativity, and culture. Our successes include current New York Times bestsellers The Magnolia Story by Chip and Joanna Gaines as well as past mega-sellers Heaven is For Real and Same Kind of Different as Me. We are looking for an Associate Publisher to help lead the imprint’s editorial vision and business strategy. Our ideal candidate possesses a passion for inspiring stories, strong acquisitions and business instincts, and a genuine desire to manage and grow a top-notch team. Day-to-day responsibilities include acquisitions and development, editorial team management, and shared leadership of the publishing and business process. We work in a dynamic and highly collaborative environment, and the Associate Publisher will interact daily with authors and agents and collaborate closely with the W Publishing marketing and sales teams.
The primary responsibilities of the Associate Publisher include but are not limited to:
Author Acquisition and Retention: Builds relationships with agents and prospective authors. Acquires, develops, edits, and leads author management for 8-12 titles per fiscal year.
List/ Program Management: Collaborates with Publisher on list planning and management of the editorial schedule. Leads the acquisitions cycle from Editorial Board to Pub Board and manages editorial team to ensure on-time delivery of projects to production and printer.
Product Development: Responsible for overseeing key aspects of the product development process, including Ed Board, titling meetings, catalog process.
Strategic Planning and Financial Analysis: Collaborates with Publisher on sales analysis, analysis of title performance, annual budgeting, and business planning.
Editorial Team Leadership: Leads, coaches, and mentors the editorial team.
Publisher Support: Collaborates with Publisher to monitor key business metrics and other various day-to-day needs; represents Publisher in key meetings (business reviews, pub board, etc.) when Publisher cannot be present
Desired candidate will possess the following knowledge, experience, education and skills:
Knowledge: Management, leadership, and professional development experience. Direct acquisitions experience and knowledge of the marketplace for Christian content strongly preferred.
Minimum. 7 years in publishing with 2 or more years in a leadership role
Target. 7-10 years in publishing with 3 or more years in a leadership role
Minimum. Bachelor’s Degree in a related field.
Target. Master’s Degree in a related field.
